The first capital bought by Perfeggt to shell out plant-based egg alternative

On the global market, plant-based alternatives to dairy and meat are expanding, and Perfeggt intends to do the same for eggs. The Berlin-based food-tech firm plans to launch its rooster-free egg product in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria in the first quarter of 2022. Now, the company has announced that it has raised $2.8 million in its maiden investment round to help with the initial launch and then expand further in Europe later in 2022.

Tanja Bogumil, the CEO of Perfeggt, co-founded the company with Gary Lin, the co-founder of EVIG, and Bernd Becker, the former head of R&D of Rügenwalder Mühle, a German vegetarian and vegan meat maker, earlier this year.

The first plant-based egg product from Perfeggt is a protein-rich liquid egg substitute manufactured from fava beans. In the pan, it can be made into scrambled eggs or an omelet. Foodservice firms will be the first to use the company’s product. Taste is king in food, and the co-founders worked hard to design a product with a similar tongue feel sensation, flavors, and textures — all of which Bogumil believes are necessary to convince people to transition to a plant-based alternative.

The new cash will allow the company to expand its personnel at its headquarters and research and development center. The company presently has openings for food scientists, marketing, and R&D. Meanwhile, Bogumil feels that more companies entering the egg substitute industry will aid Perfeggt’s objective of converting consumers to plant-based diets.
