NEW DELHI: On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2021, Google on Sunday applauded women through a special video as it highlighted the firsts by women in history. The Doodle honored female pioneers who broke barriers and reached out to their goals in different sectors such as education, science, art, civil rights, and more.
At the end of the video Doodle, Google paid homage to women by showing hands reaching out in the sky, depicting the strength and hard work it took to conquer their dreams and open doors for the generations of women.
The Doodle, illustrated by Helene Leroux, celebrated women who fought every obstacle to make their dreams come true and created history. It applauded the earnest strength, intelligence, and willpower of women on the occasion of women’s day. For the artwork on the Doodle, Leroux drew inspiration from her grandmother. “The theme Women Firsts” especially resonated with me. My great-grandmother (who I remember drawing with when I was a child) was an incredible artist, but she was never really allowed to pursue art professionally. I eventually became the first woman in my family to pursue art studies and create a profession from drawing ” she said.
Sharing the Doodle, Google wrote, “These firsts stand on the shoulders of countless others—women who laid the foundation, in the past, for today’s doors to be finally opened and glass ceilings are broken”.
Google has always come up with innovative ways to celebrate special occasions and send out a strong message to the world. Today’s Doodle, a 41-second long video, raised a hand and applauded all the women around the world for their achievements, small or big. International Women’s Day is held across the world to recognize women’s achievements, raise awareness about women’s equality, lobby for accelerated gender parity and fundraise for female-focused charities. It was celebrated for the first time in 1911.
